Antigua Guatemala during Lent

A few more pix from my adoptive moms’ trip to Guatemala, from Antigua during Lent, in the weeks leading up to Good Friday and SemanaSanta. The beautiful La Merced, Hermano Pedro and Cathedral churches; the el Viejo Cafe man decked in purple; the vendor extraordinaire Ruth with her wares; blooming bougainvillea and the fountain in the Square. No trip for me is complete without a few hikes up the Hill of the Cross; and a visit to a new discovery, the National Museum.

Our front door

If you’ve been here for a while you know that every year for the past many years I post a photo of Olivia and me in front of the wooden door of the small house where we lived together in Antigua in 2002. Well, Olivia is now 20 and with her own agenda, which this summer did not include a pilgrimage to the other side of town for the annual staged pic. Which means you’re stuck with only me in front of the door of the place that still captures my heart. The casita where we became a family. I did manage to snap a shot with Olivia and Mateo, sipping smoothies in Antigua during our visit this summer 2022. Close enough.

IRL

Although we don’t see one another often in IRL, our connections are deep. I love meeting up with friends from our adoption community in Guatemala! The photo is taken on the roof of Restaurant Aqua on 4th Avenida Norte in Antigua, Guatemala. Volcano Agua looms in the background and the yellow steeple belongs to La Merced.

At the restaurant Agua

Here’s a photo of family and friends at Agua Restaurant in Antigua Guatemala. With us in the center is Carlos Haas, university professor in Munich Germany, who grew up in Germany and is adopted from Guatemala. I’m grateful to Carlos or connecting with us as we overlap trips in Guatemala–and to all adult adoptees in our community who are role models and friends to us and our children. Thank you!

July in Antigua

Grateful to be in Antigua Guatemala with family and friends. xoxo
