Thanksgiving

Over Thanksgiving, we visited the de Young Museum for the “Judy Chicago” and “Patrick Kelly: Runway of Love” exhibitions–visual feasts for the soul.

Olivia came home and my sister Patrice joined us for dinner. My BFF from high school, Sharon, stayed with us from Seattle. Charlie was styling: my friend Lisa from NYC knit him a sweater. He led Sharon and me on a pre-dinner hike up our local mountain.

The older I get the more I cherish family and friends close and far, those with us in body and those who live in our memory.

These perfect days.

Mamalita audiobook

Today was Day 2 of taping the audiobook of my memoir, Mamalita. Why tape an audiobook of a book published 11 years ago? I can’t explain why, except that I own the audio rights and the time feels right.

Reading the book from beginning to end brings back many details I’d forgotten. A torrent of emotions. Obviously I’m not a professional book narrator, but I bring passion to the project. With luck, the audiobook should be available by mid-December.

Fingers crossed that it’s good!

Textiles by Mayan Hands

The last thing I need is another textile from Guatemala. But I love the soft, neutral palette of the Madre Tierra Collection from Mayan Hands so much that I had to share the link. Mayan Hands, as you probably know, is a fair trade non-profit that partners with more than 200 women artisans in 15 communities in the Guatemalan Highlands.

Although I most often buy in Guatemala directly from the artist, I’ve purchased online from Mayan Hands and can vouch for the quality of their merchandise. Just in time for the holidays. ☺️❤

World Adoption Day

I somehow missed the memo that yesterday was World Adoption Day. Then again, for me, every day is World Adoption Day.

Adoptions means something different to every person who is touched by it.

For me, adoption represents the single best decision I ever made.

Adoption means family.

Adoption means love.
