Mateo joined the high school track last year and, a week before Covid hit, ran his first track meet. Which turned out to be last his track meet. He rejoined this Spring, competing in the 4×100, the 100 and 200. While he didn’t break any records, the kid never missed a practice and pushed himself hard. He made me promise not to cheer during his events. “Oh sure,” I said. Wink wink. As if!
“MA-TEEEEEEEEEEEE-OOOOOO!!!!!”
Mateo running is what pure joy looks like. My husband and I could not be more proud.
